It’s been three years since hubby and I travelled overseas!! Time to go again, me thinks .. our SA Rand has to improve by lots before we can even think about it!
Sooo .. three years, on this very evening, we boarded our flight for Rome for an amazing two week Italian adventure on a Trafalgar Tour travelling from Rome to Pompeii, Sorrento, Isle of Capri, Assisi, Venice, Verona, Milan, Lake Maggiore, (Lake Como excursion), Pisa, Florence, Sienna and back to Rome. I had done extensive blog posts on our return which begins with this post : https://momsmeanderings.wordpress.com/2013/07/06/our-italian-adventure-begins/
Fabulous memories !! Touching walls of ancient places I thought I would never see, Vatican City, magnificent Sistine Chapel, beautiful Amalfi Coast, old churches and cathedrals, cobbled streets, wonderful Venice and a serenaded gondola ride, food, wine, Italian countryside, and so many more …. and special friendships made.
It is certain that hubby and I will not fly business class again, if and when we hop across the seas again. What a treat that was!!! It was my third and, possibly my last time 😦
On our arrival the following morning, we dumped our bags in our hotel room, Hotel Artemide on Via Nationale, and started our three day walkabout in Rome, collapsing every evening in a welcoming cool air-conditioned room, before meeting our fellow Trafalgar Tour travellers. We walked Rome flat! Saw everything we could possibly see. On this first day there was no time to lose .. we made our way to the Victor Emmanuel Monument from where we saw the layout of Rome and the streets we were to traipse ..
The Colosseum, Ancient City and Roman Forum were fascinating !! Absolutely fascinating !!! Everything in Rome was compact !! I imagined all these historical, ancient places were much further apart …
That evening we dined on pasta and chianti off along a cobbled street ..
Our Italian adventure had begun 🙂
