Lunch and wine tasting at Rust en Vrede

After my Mum’s memorial, hubby, Ian, my cousin Barry and I went to Rust en Vrede in Stellenbosch for lunch and wine tasting.   Mum would have approved and, I am sure, she was with us in spirit.  She loved a good glass of wine .. or two 😉

Barry missed out on the lunch we had with his brother, Gavin and Kathy, when they came out to SA from the UK in January to see my Mum.  Rust en Vrede was the first on his list of wineries for lunch when with hubby and I, as he had never been there before.  Rust en Vrede is one of our favourite wines and their lunch is simple and delicious.  It’s either succulent sirloin served with Syrah, or salmon served with Steen, plus chips and salad on the side.  That’s it!!  I am not a big chips eater so next time we go I shall ask if I can swop the chips for extra salad.  There is a superb restaurant open in the evenings with a fabulous food and pairing menu.  Hubby and I have done that and it’s amazing !!!

As the weather was cloudy and chilly,  lunch was served in the wine cellar …
