Sundowner cruise on Umngazi River

Another thing hubby and I had heard about from friends who’d been to Umngazi River Bungalows and Spa, is that the sundowner cruise is a must!!

You order your drinks beforehand, yummy snacks are included and you cruise up the river and back again with Kevin at the helm who, once further upriver, calls the African Fish Eagle.  He has the Fish Eagles call spot on!!

Only problem is a couple of Kites know the routine, flying and hovering below the magnificent Fish Eagle, to grab the fish which Kevin hurls up above the water.  Kevin tries to time the throw when he sees the Fish Eagle has the advantage.

We were unlucky … Kite swooped down and grabbed the fish as it landed on the water..

Fish Eagle eventually lost interest.  Kevin tried again, whistling for Fish Eagle, who was keen again, but couldn’t lose the Kites.

It was a lovely relaxing evening cruise, chatting with other guests and enjoying the scenery
