Throwback Thursday : memories and highlights – 1997

Time for a TBT me thinks !!    If I recall, I was in 1997 with memorable moments, and luck would have it I was about to reach October of that year.    Soooo .. exactly 18 years ago hubby and I, with Elaine, we drove down to the Cape for a short holiday ..

On the way we stopped to watch crazy people bungee jumping off the Gouritz River Bridge, near Mossel Bay.  The bridge was built in 1892 and since 2009 bungee jumping has stopped due to unsafe conditions of the old bridge

We stayed with hubby’s sister and brother in law, Cheryl and Bob, in Hermanus, well-known for it’s whale watching especially around this time of year.  Oh my, how things have changed at the whale watching look-out.  It now has a good car park and a short wall all round, making whale watching pleasurable without having to watch where you step, or doing tumble-turns on the rocks below  ..

On our way back to Johannesburg, we stopped overnight at Kuilfontein Stable Cottages, for the very first time.  Since then it’s been our regular stopover from Cape Town.  I don’t think they had a family room at that time as Elaine slept on a camp bed in our room.  All rooms are converted stables and were quite rustic in those days ..
