Our Midlands Meander continues

Following on from my last post on the Dargle Valley,  hubby and I  ‘meandered’ along the Lions River Road – D369 – to the Curry’s Post Road and drove as far as the turn-off before Providence Country Weddings – where Elaine and Bryan’s gorgeous wedding venue a year and half ago – looping and doubling back to make our way to Caversham Mill for lunch, with a few interesting stops along the way.  Some places were closed, one had closed down, and we missed one I wanted to see.    The scenery along the gravel and very dusty road was magnificent.   Sadly I didn’t take any photographs 😦

Caversham Mill – our lovely lunch spot, sitting on the deck overlooking the Lions River tumbling down the waterfall.  I had a delicious spinach and feta quiche served with a super salad and hubby had a moist and tasty ‘hand’burger 😉

The original mill was erected in 1858 by brothers Richard and James Hodson, who made the wheel buckets out of Yellowwood and Sneeze-wood cut from the local bush.  It was the first water driven mill to be erected in Natal …

This picture was hanging in the ladies loo (!)  showing what the mill looked like way-back-when …

We will definitely be back next time we’re in the Midlands

Our last stop of the day was Peter’s Gate Herbal Centre which is actually next door to Granny Mouse.  In hindsight, we should have parked the car at the hotel and walked here
