.. en route to Venice via Ravenna from Assisi in Umbria, through the Appenine Mountains to the Emilia-Romagna region

The highway followed a portion of the River Tiber …

Stopping for our ‘comfort break’  there were lots of these pretty blue flowers (type of cornflower maybe?)

We actually by-passed Ravenna, and made our way to the Basilica di Sant’ Apollinare in Classe, on the outskirts of Ravenna, and a lunch break  ..

I know it’s yet another Basilica 😉   but this has incredibly beautiful mosaics some dating back to 6th century
