Cape weekend : Vergelegen Estate

As it was getting close to lunchtime … with our plan of experiencing the ‘Winemaker’s Lunch’ at Rust en Vrede, which is either served in the cellars or under the trees, and consists of the most delicious piece of sirloin, chips and salad plus a glass of their Shiraz, all of which hubby and I have had the pleasure of consuming on a previous trip and now wanted to share our experience with our dear friends …. we had a quick walk-about around the newly renovated gardens situated at the Stables restaurant at Vergelegen, without stopping to do a wine tasting

Even though it’s looks very nice and modern, we felt that it had lost it’s old charm and appeal.  So saying, the gardens look magnificent with a stunning backdrop of the Hottentots-Holland range of mountains

This is what it looked like the last time I was there last year, November ..

Tummies were grumbling – we had left home so early in the morning to catch our flight and hardly eaten – we hit the wines!!!!   We needed food!!!   With the men waiting patiently for Paola and I to finish our photography, there was no time to wander further into the old part of the gardens, which was a pity, as they would have looked as equally magnificent.   This is the one place my Mum loved coming to and because of that I used to bring her every time I visited, for either a wander around and/or a light lunch with wine.  She always enjoyed it

We were about to go when Paola and I spotted a super kiddies playground ..
