Cape weekend : Rust en Vrede Wine Estate

After Vergelegen, we drove to Rust en Vrede in Stellenbosch.  Love this place too!  Hubby and I have been there several times for wine tastings, a cellar ‘Winemaker’s Lunch’ in the cellar on a cold, rainy day, and the 6 course wine pairing dinner in the restaurant.  All of which are well worth it.   Terry had also been with us on a previous visit to the Cape but had not experienced the cellar lunch or the wine pairing dinner.  Next time Terry and Paola visit our shores, we must do the latter!!

We did the Classic Tasting and the Limited Edition Tasting .. plus a full glass of Shiraz for lunch!   .. and the tastings were not the usual mouthful .. it was much more !!!  We were quite merry after this and made our way back to Cape Town to book into our hotel

We were all pretty pooped and well satisfied having had a delicious meal and plenty of wine.   As I said earlier, we made our way back to Cape Town to book into our hotel

Hubby and I love this hotel – we’ve stayed here several times in the past – The Vineyard Hotel, in Newlands  – for a snooze before a bite to eat at the V&A Waterfront .. and more wine 😉  !!!     I didn’t quite make it through dinner and started falling asleep at the table …. never done that before … I was that exhausted !!   Wines adding to it of course .. but when in the Cape .. drink wine!!

Pianist tinkles on the ivories in the evenings …

Our room – not so keen on the redecorating since our last stay.  Greys and whites are fine but I didn’t like the bling in places  – but it was very comfortable, as usual ..

Wire rooster is fine but I didn’t like these white painted logs …

You can’t beat the view from the mountain facing rooms … view across the extensive gardens of the hotel to the side/back of Table Mountain where Kirstenbosch Gardens is situated ..
