Back to France .. Lourdes – a truly humbling experience – where, Bernadette Soubirous, born in Lourdes, a miller’s daughter, who at the age of 14, was guided to a spring with miraculous healing powers at Grotte Massabielle where she experienced 18 visions of Virgin Mary. Five million people annually visit the Grotto ..

Basilica of St Pius X – an underground Basilica – 12,000m sq, 191m long x 61m wide .. holds 25 000 people! Designed by architect Pierre Vago and concecrated in 1958. It’s in the form of an upturned ship surrounded by a walkway – it’s enormous !! There was a mass while we were there …
Madonna incoronata ..
Madonna’s statue faces the Basilica of the Rosary and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception – one built behind and above the other. People from all walks of life were here .. nuns, priests, nurses, disabled etc, and ordinary people like ourselves
Around the central dome the arms are the transept and the sanctuary contain side alters with mosaic images of the 15 mysteries of the Rosary ..
