(Gremlins are back at work with my blog .. some photos didn’t come through and some text disappeared when publishing … should be fixed now!)
Last bit on Lyon 🙂
As I said previously, we didn’t have much time in Lyon, seeing only a small part of Vieux Lyon, but it was a wonderful insight into this very old city. On our way to the bus, passing a window of a boulangerie (bakery), our guide stopped to show us a speciality of the region (I think that’s what she said) and a popular dessert in France – a praline tart
The basic praline tart (crushed almonds or hazelnuts) is popular as well varieties of fruits added. We found the French desserts quite sweet!
Crossing the River Saone, La Croix Rousse (where the silk workers lived) is in the distance on the hill
(Photos through the bus window)
Top pic – on left of river bank .. the bus drove passed this obviously popular spot!! Full tables with people enjoying the still-hot evening with mist sprays keeping them cool
Before going to the hotel we stopped for dinner at Restaurant La Voute Chez Lea ..
We were met at the door by Lea herself ..
Starters : Hubby had Saucisson Chaud (hot Lyon sausage) served with a potato .. very very tasty !! So much so, he can’t stop talking about it !!
I had Salade Lyonnaise .. yummy!!
One of the starters was Foie Gras (two different varieties) apparently it was delicious!
For mains .. both hubby and I had Roti de Veau aux champignions (roast veal with mushrooms) served with a small macaroni and cheese, strange but true !! Absolutely delicious … sooo tasty !
A fellow diner and travelling companion had Filet de Poisson aux ecrevisses et coquillages – and the verdict .. also was so tasty and delicious !!
Dessert … hubby had a trio of homemade sorbet … refreshing and delicious !
I couldn’t resist but to have Madame Lea’s speciality dessert .. Gateaux au chocolat .. mm mm mm .. to-die-for 🙂
Excellent first day of the tour came to an end. Bundled off to our hotel (Novotel Lyon Gerland) for a good night’s sleep and a very early wake-up call for day 2 of our ‘Best of France’ experience.
