Elephant Hide Lodge, Knysna

I love, love, loved it here  …. at the family run Elephant Hide Lodge in Knysna … while holidaying along the Garden Route.   The staff are warm and friendly – it’s like home from home – we felt so comfortable here ….  would love to go back

Big heavy, chunky front door ..

Ethnic decor in the reception, lounge and dining area all in one …

Mum, Wendy, was a star!!  Such a lovely person!!!  She enthusiastically suggested places to visit for coffees, lunches and dinners especially places with fireplaces as it was chilly, overcast and rainy most of the time we were there.   The locals were ecstatic as they were in the grips of a severe drought in the region and water levels were very low.  Love the rustic fireplace …

We were the only guests the one night and Wendy suggested we have a dinner for two in front of the fireplace.  She said they would make up a nice little table, candles, dinner music and get ‘take-out’ !!!  She explained … … they don’t do a dinner (only breakfasts) but organise with a local restaurant to supply a dinner from the restaurant’s menu.   It’s delivered and served as it would be in the restaurant.  Sounded lovely and romantic, but we decided to try the restaurant itself.   We were not disappointed – food was scrumptious !!

Freshly made smoothies before a delicious choice of breakfasts

Below : (Yay, we cried in hushed tones so the locals wouldn’t hear us!)  … sunshine at last, overlooking the pool deck, our suite/cabin, and lagoon … we made the most of this sunshiny day – which was Mother’s Day – and spent a couple of hours on the Featherbed Nature Cruise and Reserve (another post coming up on this one!!)

The pathway we took to our suite .. walked left at the Y …

A Dikkop hiding in the natural gardens … (thanks Firefly for correcting me on the bird!)

Must do a post on our suite next with it’s gorgeous bath and large picture window !!  I only had one bath though (on the day it rained, and rained … and rained !!) as there was a notice in the bathroom asking guests to shower instead of bathing as it uses much less water and I figured that after all the rain, they could spare just one bath .. didn’t fill it … promise ! 🙂

Looks like a beautifyl rustic looking but very comfortable guest house. And the service sounds like its tops. The bird is a Dikkop and not a francolin. I’m really looking forward to the Featherbed post. I haven’t done that in years.

  2. Thanks for correcting me on the bird !!! – I couldn’t find it in my bird book and it looked like a francolin except the legs weren’t quite the same 🙂
